I have completed my first novel and after working through revisions, will be submitting it for publication. I also write poetry on The Sieve and the Sand. Check out the fiction and poetry pages for more information.
I work as a professor at a college outside of Fort Worth, TX, mostly teaching composition and literature courses. I love how the interaction with my students shows me different perspectives and out of the literature I teach is where I find much of the inspiration for my own writing. Oh year, I’m also the Humanities Department Chair, so I do management too; the different use of my energies is nice.

I have been married to my wonderful wife since 2006, and we have three rambunctious and adorable boys together. They keep life interesting!
I both love to travel and explore the outdoors, which is even better when I travel to explore the outdoors. I spend several weeks every summer in the Rocky Mountains, camping, fly fishing, hiking, and climbing 14ers. At home in Texas, I mostly explore the outdoors by hunting with family. I have also traveled around much of the world and have visited a majority of the world’s continents.
When I can’t get away, here are my current favorite things to watch, hear, read, or play at home:
- Empire Strikes Back
- Army of Darkness
- Shaun of the Dead
- The X-Files
- Battlestar Galactica
- Death Cab
- Los Campesinos
- Mates of State
- Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past
- Final Fantasy IV
- Super Metroid (I know all of these are old, and I play modern games, but I just like these classics more)
- Moby Dick
- Scarlet Letter
- Lord of the Rings
- Harry Potter
- The Way of Kings
- Ender’s Game
